- What is your project about? What is your argument?
My project evaluates Rubyfruit Jungle and Two Boys Kissing as coming-of-age novels in which a betrayal (betrayal by an organization/entity, betrayal of a loved one, and/or betrayal of one self) can act as a catalyst to maturity or can stunt maturity. - Why did you want to write about this topic/issue/text?
The theme of some element of betrayal seemed relevant in most texts we read, and the betrayal (or lack of support) from family of those in the gay and lesbian community seemed compelling. Rubyfruit Jungle and Two Boys Kissing have characters that face various betrayals, and characters seem to be at varying stages of development into adulthood. Originally for my proposal, I had a working list of betrayals themes from numerous novels, but felt the development of these two novels helped me develop a more cohesive argument. - What questions do you have about your draft that your reviewer can help you with?
This is a very rough working draft, which basically encompasses my thought. Mostly, Iām concerned if the organization makes sense and the basic ideas support the thesis. I have my own notes to go back and add sources, and have a working works cited of sources I plan to include in the paper. I also contemplated adding The Summer We Got Free, but I feel like discussing two novels and how betrayal hand help or hinder coming-of-age was enough to develop and support the argument. I had difficulty finding sources for Two Boys, so if there are any suggestions on sources for Levithanās YA novel, I will be most appreciated. As it is, I have looked āoutside the boxā on sources (research studies on bullying, etc.) that are about topics I cover from Two Boys that I feel can help develop points on the novel more.
