Social Justice – Level Two

Now that you’ve thought a bit about the connections between social justice and education based on your own experiences, Level Two asks you to read one of three major texts that have explored social justice issues in education. All three have been best sellers intended for  a broad readership.

1. Read one of the following books:  Savage Inequalities, Fire in the Ashes, or Lives on the Boundary. Keep careful notes on your reading, marking your text and keeping up with key themes/issues and relevant quotations. Be sure to keep your reading notes in a Google Doc in your folder for this badging pathway.
2. Locate and read two book reviews of the text you chose; remember to place copies of the PDFs of the reviews in the badging pathway folder.
3. Write a 400-500 word review of your book in Google Docs; focus on an aspect of the book that hasn’t been addressed at length in either of the reviews you read. You should also reference the reviews you read, including at least one quote from each. Use APA citation practices.
