The final step of each of the major badging pathways requires you to engage in ‘reflective’ writing. Most of the badges simply include a step called “reflect” just before the claim code. This page explains what is meant by ‘reflection’ and how to do it.

One of the main outcomes of both Writing Foundations courses and all your Writing Intensive course at ECU is your ability to analyze/reflect on your own writing habits, abilities, and experiences and to explain (articulate) what have done, how you did it, and why. The last step in claiming your badge is to create a “reflection” on your badging pathway. These reflections/analyses are typically 250-300 words in length (a single-spaced page in Word). Successful reflections include specific examples/evidence from the composing process, reference moments throughout the badging pathway (all levels), and demonstrate that the writer (you) have learned some important lessons about writing (drafting, revision, peer review, feedback, etc) and about who you are (becoming) as a writer.

To that end, using Google Docs, your reflections should answer the following questions, though not necessarily in this order:

  1. When you started this badging pathway, what were your expectations? What did you think you’d accomplish as a writer/thinker? What expectations were met? What new ideas/abilities did you discover about yourself as a writer/thinker?
  2. What activities that you completed during the pathway were most helpful to your learning/thinking? Why? Were these activities that you rushed through because they were easy or did they make you slow down and think harder/differently? Some activities (like reading) take a lot of time; others, less so. How did you plan your projects so that you were not overwhelmed? Or was planning an issue for you? Why?
  3. Which writing activity during the pathway do you think was/is your most successful? Why? Which one are you least pleased with? Why?
  4. With more time, what might you do differently with your projects?
  5. What questions, if any, do you have for me as your instructor? Which pieces of your work do you want the most feedback on?

Once you finish this piece of writing, you want to make sure you’ve saved it in your Google Drive folder for all your materials related to this badging pathway (Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, etc). Make sure that all of your files are labeled appropriately so that the professor can tell from the title what the file is.

Share a link to the folder on Google Drive as your evidence on Credly.
