I have a little bit of experience in research and citation. Most of the experiences involve small assignments for my my major. Typically, a professor asks for research on current trends in hospitality and wants us to search for scholarly articles or in trade journals for these current trends. There has been one significant example where I have used research and citation. Last spring semester for a tourism class, we had to do an 8-page paper on a county in North Carolina, which required researching the county on a pretty deep level. I would honestly say that at first research and citation was a bit difficult, basically because there did not seem to be a significant amount of information on the county that i was doing the paper on. However, after digging deeper into all of the different things I could use, such as brochures, history books, agricultural reports, etc. I really began to understand and get a grasp on what I was doing. I did struggle quite a bit with citations. I would say that the biggest struggle for me with citing information was what needed to be cited and what did not need to be cited. I think that it something that I am still trying to figure out. I feel confident that I cited things correctly afterwards, but I am not sure if that was more about luck than actual knowledge and ability. All in all, I would say that the slim amount of experience that I have with research in citation has been positive with few hiccups here and there.

To me, the video did a great job of explaining the significance of citing sources. I think that the way that the first lady explains paraphrasing is very helpful. It did help me to understand that just because it is in my own words, does not mean that I do not have to cite it because it is still not my own idea. Also the other professor made great point that by citing sources, the writer is creating a map for other writers. Knowing the difference between special and general knowledge helps to ensure the right things are being cited and that someone does not just cite something to cite it
