APA Ninja – Level Two

0 Points

After you’ve had some time to think through the basics of why we cite research and what it means to practice ethical research behaviors, it’s time to make sure you’re familiar with the American Psychological Association‘s guide for research, aka APA style. If you are in a major that uses APA, then you should consider purchasing a copy now. The book has more information than you can find online and will be useful to you through graduation.

  1. Review the following resources: “APA Style” (Prezi); “Sample APA Paper” (PDF); “Avoiding Plagiarism” (PDF); “Avoiding Plagiarism” (PPT). Throughout this course, you are responsible for understanding everything included in these resources. Any failure on your part to follow APA guidelines in your citation practices OR to abide by ECU’s plagiarism guidelines will forfeit this badging pathway and you will no longer be able to pass English 2201. If you have any questions about these materials, you must use class time to ask Dr. Banks. If you do not ask, it is assumed you understand everything included here.
  2. Watch the 5 videos on APA style on the ECU Writing Center’s “Avoiding Plagiarism” page.
  3. Using YouTube, the Purdue OWL, and other online resources, put together a list of 5-6 APA resources that you find helpful with showing you how to cite sources correctly, both “in text” and “reference page” sources. Create a Google Doc that has your sources linked and annotated (why this resource? what does it offer you).  Remember to put this in your Google Drive folder for this badging pathway.
