In all my high school English classes our teachers taught us to cite using MLA format. Even when I had to write papers for my other classes in high school, my teachers always required us to use MLA. When I got to college none of my professors wanted us to use MLA format for our papers. We learned a little about APA in my freshman English class but most of my professors just expected us to know how to use it. It was very difficult to go from writing all my papers in MLA format and then having to transition to APA which had never really been taught to me before. After watching the video from ECU professors on citing sources, they made a good point about why citations are necessary. They talked about how some students think citations are just hoops professors make us jump through. For a while that is how I felt about citations but after watching that video it made me think about it in a different way. Ms. Wendy Sharer talked about how citations can be used to give readers a way to find out more information on your topic. I have never really been good at citing using either format but I think through this badge I will become more confident in using APA format and citations in general. I think using these resources I will become more successful in my citations for this class and for my other classes that require APA citations.
