I was never introduced to citations until I was in high school.  During that time, we only learned about MLA form and the importance of it when writing papers that involved research from outside sources.  My school also offered students to take higher level courses for certain subjects at a local community college nearby.  I took an english class at the community college that was mainly focused on research, writing research papers and such.  In this class is were i developed a better understanding of MLA citations, but we were never taught APA style.  I have heard of APA before, when using citation machine online for my paper, but never bothered to look into what it actually was.  During my time hear at ECU, I still was never taught about the APA for of citing sources.  Most of the classes that I have taken only used MLA when it came to writing papers, and I have not taken a single english class up until this one. The class I took at the community college counted as college credit so I did not have to take the first level english class here that most freshmen were required to take.  To be honest I’m still a little confused about the differences between the different styles.  I understand the importance of citations when it comes to research studies, papers and so on but this is something that I feel like I will not use in my future career.  My major is in the College of Business and all the classes that I have taken for my major do not stress the importance of citations, mainly because we don’t use them. Learning about APA and the importance of citations will be helpful for me, but only for my time at school. I don’t really see myself using this tool after college.
