I have never really been a fan of citation like everyone else, but throughout the years I have gotten very comfortable with MLA and now we’re switching it up to APA and that makes for some confusion. Although I don’t like citations and all the work that goes into citing something in a paper and then a bibliography/works cited I understand why it is important. ECU’s academic integrity statement is something that is actually in every single one of my Business class syllabi, so I am pretty familiar with it and it helps me further understand why it’s not okay to plagiarize and cheat as it damages the reputation of ECU. I think I have always been pretty good about citing information, my high school made us write papers all of the time citing sources, I think it is very well known and understood that things that are general knowledge do not need to be cited. Special knowledge items are things that I would go forth and research and something probably not known by the masses which I then would have to cite where I got that information from. I think it matters because that way you know that you don’t have to cite every little bit of information as that would just get tedious. But it is also important because if you had to google the information and then you incorporate what you googled into your paper then you have to cite where you got that information from. If you don’t then it would be considered plagiarizing.
