In my academic career, I have used one research and citation style, which was MLA. I have never used APA so this will be a new venture for me. I haven’t even heard of some of these styles. For example, what the heck is Chicago? Last time I checked it was a city in Illinois. But I digress. I look forward to learning more about APA so I can use it in the future when researching and citing a paper or scholarly article.
After watching the video on citing sources, most of my questions that I had before were answered, but one that still remains is how we are supposed to know whether we paraphrased enough to where we don’t have cite the source. I always am confused on how much we can use of the original statement before it is considered plagiarism if we don’t cite it. I guess the best thing to do would be to cite it even if you are unsure if you should or not. That way, you cover yourself just in case someone questions you on it.
I think that the transition from MLA to APA will be tough, but I can manage. Since I have been taught MLA throughout my schooling, that is what I am used to and it is what I know, but how different can the two be? After all, it is just citing something from another place. I guess my main concern is being able to do it properly, but I feel like with the proper help, I will be able to do it successfully.
